Apple’s Display-Equipped Smart Speaker Could Launch Later This Year

Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a new smart speaker featuring a display, potentially before the end of this year. The device, unofficially referred to as the HomePad in some reports and the Home Hub in others, is expected to arrive in two distinct versions.

Evidence of the upcoming launch has surfaced in the recently released macOS 26.7 beta, according to code analysis. However, the final name of the device has not yet been confirmed.

Further examination of the code suggests that the smart speaker may run on a modified version of tvOS, yet its interface is expected to closely resemble that of the Apple Watch. The home screen is said to feature options for "Faces" and a "Face Gallery," similar to watch faces on the Apple Watch. Users will be able to customize these faces with various widgets and Smart Stacks to suit their preferences.

In addition to these watch-like elements, iPhone app widgets will also be compatible with the HomePad's screen.

Privacy considerations appear to have influenced the device's design. Widgets containing personal information will only become visible when the user's iPhone is in close proximity.

According to the report, Apple is working on two different models of the HomePad. One model will include a speaker base, while the other is designed for wall mounting.
