Bumble announced on Tuesday that any user in a match can now send the first message, ending its women-message-first requirement. Matches will also have 72 hours to respond, up from the previous 24 hours.

Founder and CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd said the update reflects the community’s desire for more flexibility and less pressure. Survey data cited by the company indicates that 66% of women prefer men to send the first message, and more than half of members said a longer response window improved their experience.

The change follows the introduction of “Opening Moves” in 2024 and comes as the company reported a 15.2% year-over-year revenue decline to $210.5 million in its second-quarter earnings.
