Situational Awareness, an AI-focused hedge fund, has invested $400 million in Source Foundry, a startup founded by Stanford researchers that aims to accelerate and reduce the cost of chip manufacturing. This brings the fund’s total investment in Source Foundry to $500 million, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The fund, founded by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner in 2024, recently sold off most of its public portfolio to Citadel, while retaining its shares in Anthropic. Its assets under management reportedly declined from $20 billion to $10 billion.
