AI-powered coding platform Cursor has officially joined SpaceX, marking the completion of a deal first outlined earlier this year. The announcement, made on Cursor’s blog, confirms that the acquisition has now closed, bringing the popular development tool under the umbrella of Elon Musk’s aerospace and technology company.

Cursor’s new status as part of SpaceX stems from a series of developments that began in April. At that time, SpaceX and Cursor announced a partnership agreement to jointly develop technology. That initial deal also granted SpaceX an option to acquire Cursor for $60 billion. Just two months later, after SpaceX became a public company, both firms confirmed they would proceed with the acquisition.

In its statement, Cursor repeatedly highlighted SpaceX’s computing infrastructure, which SpaceX has reportedly been renting out to major clients, including Anthropic and Google. This infrastructure is a key part of the deal’s value proposition. Cursor noted that becoming part of SpaceX will provide it with “access to the largest fleet of GPUs in the world.”

The company elaborated on its new parent’s ambitions, stating, “SpaceX is building the computing capacity needed to scale intelligence far beyond what exists today,” and added that “Cursor will be one place where that intelligence becomes useful.” This acquisition positions Cursor to leverage SpaceX’s massive computational resources, potentially reshaping how its AI coding tools are developed and deployed.
