AI Coding Startup Cursor Officially Joins SpaceX

Cursor, the AI-powered coding platform, has officially joined SpaceX, as confirmed in an announcement on Cursor’s blog. The deal, which had been anticipated, marks a significant consolidation in the AI and space technology sectors.

In April, SpaceX, the aerospace company led by Elon Musk and which also acquired Musk’s AI venture xAI earlier this year, announced an agreement to develop technology jointly with Cursor. That agreement included an option for SpaceX to purchase Cursor for $60 billion. Two months later, after SpaceX became a public company, both parties confirmed they were proceeding with the acquisition.

Cursor’s announcement that the deal had closed highlighted SpaceX’s computing infrastructure, which has been offered for rent to clients including Anthropic and Google. This infrastructure is also the subject of a lawsuit concerning pollution from its data center gas turbines.

By becoming part of SpaceX, Cursor stated it will gain “access to the largest fleet of GPUs in the world.” The company elaborated, “SpaceX is building the computing capacity needed to scale intelligence far beyond what exists today. Cursor will be one place where that intelligence becomes useful.”
