China Maglev Train Reaches 800 km/h in 5.3 Seconds

Chinese scientists have achieved a new milestone in maglev technology by accelerating an experimental train from zero to 800 kilometers per hour in just 5.3 seconds. The test, conducted at the Donghu Laboratory in Hubei, involved a model train weighing approximately 1.1 tons on a one-kilometer test track. According to Chinese officials, this marks a new world record for the fastest acceleration over a short distance in maglev technology. The train safely decelerated to a smooth stop over about 200 meters after reaching top speed. The Donghu Laboratory had previously set records in June and July 2025 with speeds of 650 km/h and 700 km/h, respectively. Experts suggest these experiments could pave the way for future ultra-high-speed ground transportation and other advanced transport technologies. However, this speed remains an experimental test result rather than a commercial passenger train speed.
