Spotify to Label AI Artists with New Badges

Spotify announced it will label AI-generated artists with “AI Persona” profile tags and exclude their music from its editorial and algorithmic recommendations.

Starting in mid-September, users will see the badges on some artists’ profiles. Spotify will also review profiles to identify those that appear to represent photorealistic AI-generated identities, prioritizing those with pre-defined audience thresholds. By default, AI Personas will not be included in editorial or algorithmic recommendations, unless a user chooses to follow them.

Artists can self-disclose their AI Persona status starting August 11, 2026, and can appeal the label if they believe it was incorrectly applied. The company clarified that the badge is about the artist’s public identity, not how the music was made. Spotify will also introduce a tool for users to report unlabeled AI Personas.
