Google has officially set September 15 as the date for its first major showcase of Googlebook, its upcoming premium laptop platform built around Gemini and a native Android codebase. The company will host an in-person media event in New York City, where it is expected to provide more details about the software and hardware powering the new platform.

Google first introduced Googlebook alongside Android 17 earlier this year, offering a limited preview of its vision for the next generation of laptops. At that time, the company demonstrated several Gemini-powered features, including custom widgets, Magic Pointer, and deeper connections between Googlebook devices and Android smartphones.

Googlebook hardware partners to join showcase

The September event is expected to provide the clearest look yet at Google's plans for the platform. Google has confirmed hardware partnerships with manufacturers including Lenovo, ASUS, and HP, with hands-on demonstrations expected to give attendees a closer look at upcoming Googlebook laptops.

Several Lenovo models have already appeared in leaks, while reports suggest some upcoming devices could feature Google's HiLight LED bar, a glowing design element also seen on other recent Google products. Google is positioning Googlebook as more than a conventional Chromebook update, with the platform designed around Gemini artificial intelligence and Android.

Snapdragon chips could bring cheaper Googlebook laptops

Google has confirmed that Googlebook will support processors from Intel, Qualcomm, and MediaTek. Recent code references have reportedly revealed Qualcomm-powered devices codenamed Annite and Pic. The machines are linked to Qualcomm's eight-core Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 processor and a platform called Mica.

The processor can reach speeds of up to 3.4GHz, while the leaked specifications reportedly point to fingerprint support and no USB-A port on those particular models. Other references to Quartz and Mica may be linked to Qualcomm's more powerful Snapdragon X Elite X1E-80-100, although that connection remains uncertain.

Snapdragon X Plus-powered Windows laptops currently generally sell in the $700 to $1,100 range, but Google has yet to announce pricing for Googlebook devices.

Intel-powered Googlebook models also expected

Intel-powered Googlebook hardware has also appeared in leaks, including an Acer model reportedly featuring up to 32GB of RAM and a 2.8K OLED display. The leaked devices remain unconfirmed, and their final specifications and prices are expected to become clearer during Google's September 15 event.

With Googlebook, the company is attempting to create a new laptop platform that combines Android, Gemini, and hardware from multiple manufacturers, potentially offering users deeper integration between their laptops and Android phones.
