Samsung Expands Foldable Lineup with New Devices

Samsung is preparing to broaden its foldable smartphone portfolio, with reports indicating that the company is ramping up production targets following the early success of the Galaxy Z Fold 8. According to internal sources, the tech giant could introduce two additional large-screen foldable phones next year, signaling a major expansion of its foldable offerings.

If the plan moves forward, the Galaxy Z 9 series is expected to include a total of five devices. This lineup would reportedly feature the Galaxy Z Fold 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 9, and a new Galaxy Z Tri-Fold, alongside the existing models.

New Models and Screen Formats

The upcoming devices are said to focus on wider screen formats. The current Galaxy Z Fold 8 is described as a "wide foldable" because its inner display is wider than it is tall when opened, with a screen ratio of 4:3. In contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra features an almost square inner display, with a ratio of approximately 9:10.

Samsung's new wide-screen foldable is reportedly being optimized for video viewing. While the standard HDTV format is 16:9, some movies and TV shows use wider cinematic ratios such as 21:9. This suggests that the upcoming devices could be designed to better accommodate these formats, offering an enhanced viewing experience for users.

Future of the Z Flip Series

Despite earlier speculation that Samsung might discontinue its Z Flip series, the latest developments suggest otherwise. However, reports indicate that the lower-priced Z Flip FE model could be phased out in the future.
